For many of us, a great holiday involves a great swimming pool… but as we all well know, not all pools are created equal! We already showcased six of our favourite swimming pools in Asia last month – but we decided that these six stunners in Bali deserved a roundup of their own. Time to dive in!
Hanging Gardens Ubud
When Condé Nast Traveller reckons you have “The World’s Best Swimming Pool” in your backyard, you know you’ve done something right. The cascading split-level infinity pool at Hanging Gardens Ubud is nothing short of magnificent – an architectural wonder that appears to float above the wild jungles below. Featuring a giant geometric wall of solidified volcanic ash, a rushing waterfall that spills down to the lower pool and a teak deck studded with loungers ideal for lazy days lost to sunbathing (you can even book the floating private deck for candlelit dinners or intimate weddings), this is the type of swimming pool that dreams were made of.
Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay
Listed among Travel + Leisure’s 500 Best Hotels In The World for very good reason, Four Seasons Bali overlooks the pristine waters of Jimbaran Bay, offering guests seclusion, serenity and supreme luxury. An all-villa resort, each traditional Balinese-designed home includes its own generously proportioned private pool. If you fancy a side order of sweeping views with your swim, then the communal infinity pool won’t disappoint, while on-site beach club Sundara delivers panoramic vistas across the bay, along with an expansive terrace that’s perfect for catching the sea breeze as you sip on a Sea Breeze… true Bali bliss.
Never mind being one of the best pools in Bali, the pool at Alila Ubud is probably one of the best in the world, full stop. This emerald-green infinity pool is truly breathtaking – a picture-perfect expanse of silvery water that seems to hang over the verdant Ayung River Valley below, with sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding lush hillsides. From atmospheric misty mornings to romantic pink-tinged sunsets, you’ll definitely want to set up camp at one of Alila’s loungers for the long haul.
Alila Villas Uluwatu
Whilst all the villas at Alila Uluwatu have their own private plunge pools, missing out on the resort’s spectacular 50-metre communal infinity pool would be a real holiday crime. Perched on a cliff-top above the Indian Ocean with nothing but endless blue skies ahead of you, swimming here feels like taking a dip at the edge of the world – and with most other guests at this boutique retreat safely ensconced in their villas, you’ll often have the whole place to yourself. Grab a lounger, a cocktail and a good book… Smug Instagram shots don’t get much better than this!
Ayana Resort and Spa Jimbaran
Fully integrated with the neighbouring Rimba resort, Ayana benefits from not one, not two, but twelve swimming pools from which to float your cares away. From the rugged cliff-side setting of the saltwater Ocean Beach Pool to the splashy slip-and-slide of the kids’ pool, if you’re at your happiest in water, then there’s really nowhere better. Our top pick from the extensive aquatic menu? The twin tiers of Ayana’s main pool, whose statement infinity edge draws your eye far from your luxurious surrounds to the distant horizon where azure sky meets aquamarine sea. Soak yourself while soaking up the view.
Karma Kandara Ungasan
This precious gem of a resort is every bit as polished and sparkling as you’d expect from a destination right in the centre of Bali’s “Billionaire’s Row”. While you’d be forgiven for venturing no further than your villa’s very own tropical garden-fringed private pool, a saunter around the resort’s expansive grounds leads you to Karma Kandara’s stunning main infinity pool. No run-of-the-mill hotel piscine, this jaw-dropper is built into its cliff-top setting, all sinuous curves with muslin-draped loungers and views for days. Make time for a sunset swim before dinner at diMare restaurant – there’s no better way to end a day.
