The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is Brisbane’s arts and cultural jewel situated in the colourful South Bank precinct. Across two riverside buildings, individuals and families alike can enjoy exploring a huge array of world-class art collections and can participate in interactive exhibits and fun activities.

You can easily spend a full day soaking up QAGOMA’s 16,000 works of contemporary, historical and modern art stemming from Australia and around the world, so bring along a packed lunch for a break underneath a shady tree outside, or kick back for alfresco or inside dining at one of the on-site cafes or restaurants.

Little ones will also be in excellent hands learning, playing and creating at QAGOMA’s fantastic Children’s Art Centre which brings together a collection of activities designed by leading artists from all around the globe. Another standout feature of the gallery is the Cinématheque – the only art gallery cinema of its kind in Australia – which showcases a riveting program of cultural films and exhibits all year round.

The two QAGOMA buildings are an easy 150 metres apart, so hopping from one to the other is a breeze, and general entry is free to both galleries. To get there from the CBD, walk across the Kurlipa footbridge or take the right footpath across the Victoria Bridge. QAGOMA is also situated a short walk from the South Brisbane train station, Cultural Centre Busway station and South Bank CityCat and ferry terminal.

South Bank Cultural Precinct is home to buzzing cafes, pubs and eateries as well as other must-see highlights including the mind-bending Queensland Science Centre which provides kids and families a feast for the senses, as well as the iconic Wheel of Brisbane – the city’s dazzling Ferris wheel towering at 60 metres high.
