Trip to Indonesia not quite long enough to see the whole place? Taman Mini Indonesia has you covered. Meaning ‘Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park’, this place claims to be “a whole country in one park” – and it doesn’t disappoint. Get set to discover the best of Indonesia’s 13,000 islands and 26 (in 1975) provinces, from its famous buildings and monuments to its cultural and historic highlights.

Located about 18 kilometres south-east of the city centre, Taman Mini Indonesia is one of Jakarta’s most popular tourist attractions. This enormous park, which is spread across more than 100 hectares, offers a shuttle bus, monorail and cable car to navigate. Alternatively, you can hire a bicycle or simply set out on foot for a self-guided or group tour.

The park is based around a village that features 26 full-sized replicas of houses and buildings from different regions of the archipelago. Each of these architecturally authentic structures showcases the unique culture, history and traditions of its respective region.

The Hindu temple, Buddhist temple, mosque, Catholic church and Protestant church that stand side by side highlight the diverse range of religions that coexist in Indonesia. Beyond the village, you’ll find an IMAX cinema, several flora and fauna parks, an orchid garden and various theatres and museums that all showcase Indonesia’s natural diversity and range of rich cultures.

Be sure to ride the sky lift, which passes over a scale model of the entire Indonesian archipelago built into a lake. It’s worth noting that many of the activities attract additional fees.

The park hosts a number of free cultural performances, dances and displays that take place throughout the week, although the main events happen on Sundays. Throughout the park, you’ll find a great range of eateries serving up authentic Indonesian food, making this a great spot to try cuisine from different regions.

With such a big list of attractions on offer, you’d be forgiven for wanting to stay a little longer and explore the park over two days. Luckily, that’s an option – there’s on-site accommodation available. Taman Mini Indonesia is open daily.
